This was a warm and welcoming place, despite the three screens around about.

Four real ales, a couple of boring options and a couple more interesting. Got
the smiley barmaid to pour me a pint of the Farmers blond.
    Ducked
    out before quiz happened.

I'd like to give the pub 3 and half stars  but I can't, so I'm going to be harsh with 3.
The pubs is a proper old fashioned pub, both externally(conservatory aside) and internally. They usually have a few reals on and a decent selection of other drinks there too. Its close proximity to the train station and slightly off the beaten track in terms of the city centre make it a good place for quiet pint. It's become a bit of a matchday starter pub too when I visit Bramall Lane to watch The Blades.
I think the place could be even better though with a few improvements  namely a better selection and rotation of their ales. Also, the big screens in there annoy me  an unwelcome distraction in my view.

Can sympathise with the young gentleman below, we witnessed this apparent bar manager and her friend that night rolling around on the pub floor, doing cartwheels, shouting at customers and asking people for drugs. Truly shocking from a member of staff, we wont be coming back any time soon with her in charge and will strive to make all our friends know about this incident!

On the outside it looks as though this old pub hasn't moved with the times at all. Come on, how progressive can a pub called 'The Red Lion' be?

Very, apparently. Once inside, you'll notice a comprehensive range of drinks, High Definition screens, a pretty conservatory and more female drinkers than you might expect. Old cats it seems, have no problem learning new tricks.

Due to The Red Deer's age its layout is broken up, with several small rooms shooting off from the larger ones. This means there are plenty of good places for an intimate chat, but places fill-up quickly if you want to watch sport in the main rooms.

Prices are reasonable, and a proximity to Sheffield Hallam University provides a friendly crowd; it's handy for the train station too.

I'd recommend this place for a quiet city-centre pint or for one after lectures, but if you want to watch the football, grab a seat early.

Nice traditional boozer. Good range of beer and guest ales. Prices are average. Plenty of space, 3 main seating areas and a well looked after presentable beer garden. Pool is on offer and the pub hosts live music on a regular basis. Defo worth including in any pub crawl around Sheffield.
